Bach, Vivaldi, and Rameau found their place in an archipelago where concert halls, schools, radio, and even cafés played a decisive role. Introduced in the 16th century by Jesuit missionaries, it disappeared after the country’s closure before re-emerging at the end of the 19th century. Here is a brief history of baroque music in Japan, from the arrival of hymns in 1549 to the first concerts of the 1930s.
With “Glosas de oro”, we discover Barbaroco, a young early music ensemble breathing new life into the songbooks of the Spanish Renaissance. The ensemble will perform the programme on 12 September at the Church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul in Gonesse, in the Île-de-France region, before presenting it at Madrid’s Fundación Juan March in January 2027.
