Les Boréades de Montréal are celebrating their 30th season with a 2026–2027 programme built around four main events. Founded by flautist Francis Colpron, the Quebec ensemble has long championed performance on period instruments, with a theatrical and expressive approach, while also forging links with other disciplines and, more recently, with contemporary creation.
The season opens on 24 September with Plaisirs de la conversation, a galant programme in which Francis Colpron and his musicians set the instruments in dialogue in the spirit of 18th-century salons, with works by Couperin, Villeneuve, Boismortier, Guillemain, Quentin and Mondonville. It continues on 3 December with Noëls baroques français et mélodies d’hiver, featuring soprano Jacqueline Woodley in motets and variations on traditional Christmas melodies, in a year that also marks the 350th anniversary of the birth of Louis-Nicolas Clérambault.
After Mozart, sonates de jeunesse on 4 February, the highlight of the season will come on 25, 26 and 27 March 2027 at the Monument-National with Atys. American composer Jonathan Dawe and stage director Stéphanie Jasmin offer a contemporary reimagining of Lully and Quinault’s tragédie en musique, transposed to the political world of the United States in the 1980s.
This anniversary season also highlights the importance Les Boréades place on transmission and education: together with Les Concerts de la Chapelle, the ensemble co-produces the Académie de musique ancienne de Saint-Camille, whose 10th edition took place in 2026 and which welcomes students, professionals and amateur musicians alike.
