Bach and Handel never met. In “Opus Infinitum”, Leonardo García-Alarcón imagines the encounter that never took place, assembling cantatas, oratorios, Passions and instrumental works like fragments of a new composition. A hall of mirrors captured at Ambronay Abbey in 2024 with Cappella Mediterranea and the Namur Chamber Choir.

With “Opus Infinitum”, Leonardo García-Alarcón does not set out simply to pit Bach against Handel. Instead, the Argentinian conductor creates a vast pasticcio from their works, bringing together pieces that share a style, an affect, a text or a particular colour. Premiered in Namur in spring 2024, the programme was performed again on 28 September in Ambronay Abbey, as part of the Festival’s 45th edition, with Cappella Mediterranea, the Namur Chamber Choir and four soloists: Ana Vieira Leite, Logan Lopez Gonzalez, Samuel Boden and Adrien Fournaison.
