Lully’s Carnaval celebrated in Ferrara (Italy)

The event had been eagerly awaited: Lully’s Le Carnaval, mascarade royale, in its 1675 version, was performed in its entirety for the first time in the modern era at the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara. The ten numbers that make up the work were assembled by Lully according to the practice of the “pasticcio” and derive from various spectacles originally conceived as ballets, masquerades and comédies-ballets, set to texts by Molière, Benserade and Quinault. The staging of this production was entrusted to Emiliano Pellisari who, together with Mariana Porceddu, devised the choreography performed by the dancers of the NoGravity Theatre company. Le Carnaval, mascarade royale is available to watch on the Opera Streaming platform on YouTube.

With Valeria La Grotta, Giuseppina Bridelli, Philippe Talbot, Cyril Auvity, Biagio Pizzuti, Alexandre Baldo, the Coro I Musici del Gran Principe, the ensemble Modo Antiquo and Federico Maria Sardelli.

Bach and Collegium Vocale Gent in Bruges

At the Concertgebouw in Bruges, ahead of appearances at the Philharmonie de Paris and the Philharmonie du Luxembourg, Collegium Vocale Gent and Philippe Herreweghe presented Soli Deo Gloria, a programme of three Bach cantatas from his mature Leipzig years. These works, composed at a time when Bach was deeply committed to his mission of elevating church music, testify not only to his theological depth but also to his ability to create music that resonates across the centuries.

With Grace Davidson, Alex Potter, Guy Cutting, Krešimir Stražanac, the Collegium Vocale Gent and Philippe Herreweghe.

Come Home with Music in Berlin with Reginald Mobley and Lautten Compagney Berlin

Under the banner Come Home with Music, the American countertenor Reginald Mobley and Lautten Compagney Berlin explore the notion of homeland: where is it to be found, and can one return home through music? Is home located in family, in the city, in the countryside, in a landscape, or perhaps in God? Through a programme combining spirituals, gospels and arias, they place the performance within the context of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. Presented at the Konzerthaus Berlin, it will be revived this spring in Dortmund (27 February) and Halle (14 June).

With Reginald Mobley, Lautten Compagney Berlin and Wolfgang Katschner.
