Haendel’s “Il Trionfo…” with René Jacobs

→Handel’s first oratorio, written at the age of 23, “Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno” here benefits from the meticulous work of René Jacobs, his soloists and the Freiburger Barockorchester, attentive to the mobility and contrasts of the score. An interpretation that places the text at its centre in order to come as close as possible to the musical and expressive fabric of the composer.

Written in Rome in 1708, Handel’s first oratorio stages four allegorical figures grappling with the passing of time. René Jacobs, at the helm of the Freiburger Barockorchester, offers a text-driven reading supported by Sunhae Im, Carolyn Sampson, Benno Schachtner and Thomas Walker. Their interpretation highlights both the contrasts in the writing and the finely wrought interplay between voices and instruments.
