The association ‘Friends of Music on Early Instruments’ (AMIA) is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. Based in Strasbourg, it was the first in France to organise seasons entirely devoted to early music. Since its inception, long before historical interpretation became the norm, AMIA has adhered to two principles: historical instruments and excellence. Over the years, AMIA has welcomed almost all the great baroque musicians: Jordi Savall, Gustav Leonhardt, the Kuijken brothers, Christophe Coin, Vox Luminis, Les Talens Lyriques and Gli Incogniti, among others. In keeping with this guiding principle, the 50th season offers a forward-looking programme of concerts covering a wide musical spectrum: popular, classical, baroque and dance influences. The tone is set with Rebellion, a show by the young ensemble The Curious Bards, which opens the season on 19 September.
