The American conductor, lutenist and composer Joël Cohen died on 26 July 2026 in Boston (USA). Born on 29 May 1942, this former pupil of Nadia Boulanger in Paris conducted the Boston Camerata for four decades and founded the Camerata Mediterranea ensemble in 1990. Throughout his career, he was committed to promoting early music repertoires and historically informed performance practices. He also worked in the 1970s as a producer at France Musique and was one of the key figures behind the concept of the Fête de la Musique on 21 June in France.
