At the Château du Clos Lucé (France), the 20th European Renaissance Music Festival

The European Renaissance Music Festival, held at the Château Clos Lucé (France), the residence where Leonardo da Vinci lived in Amboise (France), is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, it welcomes Jordi Savall, an iconic figure in early music, accompanied by his ensemble Hespèrion XXI for a special concert (19 September) dedicated to ‘the art of variation and improvisation from ancient Europe to the New World’. In the Baroque era, improvisation, distinguished by its spontaneous and ephemeral nature, was an integral part of musical practice. In addition, the festival is breaking new ground by presenting an opera for the first time. The opera in question is Monteverdi’s ‘The Coronation of Poppea’ (20 and 21 September), one of the very first operas in the Western world, which marks the transition between the Renaissance and the Baroque period. Le Banquet Céleste offers an intimate reinterpretation focused on the most emblematic musical moments.
