An exceptional Guarneri del Gesù violin sold at auction in Paris

On 16 December, Artcurial will auction an exceptional violin signed by one of the greatest violin makers in history: Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri, known as del Gesù. From the collection of Philippe Dennery, scientist, entrepreneur, patron and music lover, this violin was made around 1730. Its value is estimated at between €2,000,000 and €2,500,000. Fewer than 150 violins by Guarneri del Gesù are known to exist today. They embody all the power and uniqueness of the Cremonese master’s art, whose instruments are among the most sought-after in the world. Their rarity, mystery and incomparable sound continue to fascinate collectors and musicians alike. The greatest virtuosos – from Paganini to Jascha Heifetz, Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern and Itzhak Perlman – chose them for their exceptional resonance and powerful sound. The Guarneri violin will be on display in Paris at Artcurial (Rond-point des Champs-Élysées) from 11 to 15 December. To be continued.
