The programme for the 7th edition of the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival, presented by its artistic director Max Emanuel Cencic, includes, as every year, a new stage production. In 2026, there will be six performances of Handel’s rarely performed opera Floridante. Max Emanuel Cencic will direct the production, with sets designed by Helmut Stürmer, who passed away at the end of October 2025 and who had already created the magnificent sets for the festival’s exceptional productions of Flavio (2023) and Pompeo Magno (2025). The resident orchestra for 2026 will be the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra, which was already invited to Bayreuth Baroque in 2022, and will perform under the baton of Markellos Chryssicos. As always in Bayreuth, the cast will be of the highest calibre: with Max Emanuel Cencic in the title role of Floridante, Eva Zalenga (Rossane), Sonja Runje (Elmira), Bruno de Sa (Timante), Pavel Kudinov (Oronte) and Yannis Francois (Coralbo).
The festival programme also includes concerts by Christophe Dumaux, Julia Lezhneva and The Sopranos – Federico Fiorio, Maayan Licht and Dennis Orellana at the Margraves’ Opera House. Also worth noting are concerts at other venues in Bayreuth: Andreas Scholl and Emöke Barath will perform in a Caesar meets Rodelinda gala with the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra conducted by Markellos Chryssicos at the recently reopened Friedrichsforum. Maximiliano Danta and Petr Nekoranec will perform as soloists at the castle church.
