The Beaune Festival closes its 2026 edition on a very positive note, with rising attendance and an audience whose loyalty remains as strong as ever. At a time of severe budgetary pressure on the cultural sector, in France and in several other European countries, these results are particularly welcome news.
The 44th edition of the Beaune International Baroque Opera Festival, held from 3 to 26 July 2026, confirmed the continued appeal of Baroque opera, the Festival said in a statement. Attendance rose by 11%, with 5,272 paid tickets sold and a total audience of 6,766. Nearly 46% of tickets were sold for €40 or less, thanks to accessible pricing for under-18s (€10) and under-35s (€35). The number of events also increased: 20 concerts (including 3 free events), 4 talks, 4 musical visits, 6 dinners and tastings, and 1 film screening.
The Festival also expanded the range of venues it used, presenting 3 staged or semi-staged productions (L’Avare, Nicandro e Fileno, Peau d’Âne) for the first time at Beaune’s Théâtre municipal and La Lanterne Magique. These productions proved a success with audiences and critics alike, reaching 90% capacity. Other highlights included the 3 “Dowland 400” concerts, which showcased the richness of the composer’s music, while the Festival Choir, fully subscribed for its second edition, offered an intense week of music-making.
