Under the leadership of its new director Matthias Schluz, the Zurich Opera House has announced a new annual baroque music festival. A rich program of operas, concerts, and chamber music invites both connoisseurs and newcomers to immerse themselves in the world of early music for ten days. Highlights include the rarely performed tragedy “Scylla et Glaucus” by French composer Jean-Marie Leclair. Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky will conduct Handel’s opera “Aci, Galatea e Polifemo.” Cecilia Bartoli will play the title role in Handel’s “Giulio Cesare.” Other highlights include Johann Sebastian Bach’s two Passions performed by La Scintilla and the Zürcher Sing-Akademie (“St. John Passion”) and the Ensemble Pygmalion conducted by Raphael Pichon (“St. Matthew Passion”). . Not to mention soprano Jeanine De Bique, who will perform compositions by Handel and his contemporaries with Concerto Koln.
