The 27th Biagio-Marini-Wettbewerb, held on 12 August 2026 in Neuburg an der Donau (Germany), awarded first prize to the Yara Ensemble (Germany). This international competition, dedicated to early music, is aimed at young chamber music ensembles committed to historical performance practice and the use of period instruments. The Yara Ensemble was founded in 2021 and plays on period instruments. Its members also perform with ensembles such as the Freiburger Barockorchester and the Gaechinger Cantorey. The Yara Ensemble was also the winner of the special ‘Music and Space’ prize at the 2025 Handel Competition in Göttingen.
The other prize-winners at the Biagio Marini Competition are: 2nd Prize – the Insomnia Ensemble (Netherlands) – Audience Prize : Les Fleurs du Bien (Germany) – Special Viola da Gamba Prize: Ardelia Ensemble The competition is organised as part of the Neuburg Summer Academy and aims to showcase emerging talent in early music across Europe
