To mark Jean-Baptiste Forqueray‘s birthday on 3 April, this ten-track playlist of the week highlights the exceptional legacy of the Forquerays, father and son. Although their relationship was tumultuous, their music bears witness to a fascinating continuity between the generations, blending virtuosity and expressiveness.

Discover the elegance of La Leclair for viola da gamba, followed by the dazzling virtuosity of La Daubonne for harpsichord. La Buisson, a chaconne of remarkable intensity, demonstrates the emotional depth of the viol, while La Portugaise for harpsichord reveals a dance full of energy. La Dubreuil adds a melancholy touch on the viol, before La Couperin pays tribute to another great Baroque master on the theorbo. But it is perhaps La Sylva that best embodies this harmony, with a unique combination of harpsichord and lute that creates a captivating atmosphere. Finally, La Mandoline and La Marella round off this selection with, respectively, expressive subtlety on the viol and a brilliant piece on the harpsichord.
