Recorded at the Festival de Saintes, “Lagoon and Mainland” brings together the Pulcinella ensemble, mezzo-soprano Lucile Richardot and cellist Ophélie Gaillard in a programme devoted to Vivaldi and Bononcini, moving between opera arias and cello concertos. A journey into Baroque Venice to enjoy before the ensemble returns to the same festival on 12 July, alongside countertenor Carlo Vistoli in “Sottosopra!”, from Vivaldi to Finazzi.

At the Abbaye aux Dames, for the 50th edition of the Festival de Saintes, Ophélie Gaillard and Pulcinella set voice and cello in dialogue in a Venice of theatre and contrast. “Lagoon and Mainland” (Lagunes et Terre ferme) brings together Vivaldi – master of the Pietà and man of the opera house – and Bononcini, the virtuoso cellist who became a sought-after opera composer. Carried by Lucile Richardot’s deep-hued voice, the programme sheds light on the fertile links between opera arias, instrumental virtuosity and the dramaturgy of the emotions.
