Hortus Harmonicus, a new baroque music festival, will take place in December in Livorno, Italy. Under the artistic direction of Federico Maria Sardelli and Roberto Sbolci, it will be held in the historic Teatro Goldoni and two magnificent baroque churches. The programme for this first edition includes rare pieces and famous Baroque masterpieces by Vivaldi, Charpentier and Monteverdi. The festival’s inaugural event will be the performance on 4 December of La Costanza Trionfante, an opera by Vivaldi, rediscovered after extensive research by Federico Maria Sardelli. This will be its first theatrical performance since… 1716. This will be followed on 14 December by Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Concert de Noël. A selection of pieces from Claudio Monteverdi’s Selva morale e spirituale will be performed to close this first edition of Hortus Harmonicus on 18 December.
