Under the title Porpora & Farinelli: the master and the pupil, Philippe Jaroussky explores the vocal writing of the Neapolitan composer, a formidable pedagogue, through his relationship with his brilliant pupil and castrato. At the head of the Venice Baroque Orchestra, Andrea Marcon accompanies this journey into eighteenth-century Neapolitan opera, poised between spectacular virtuosity and suspended melodic lines. The programme unfolds in the distinctive setting of the Opéra Royal of Versailles, a theatre of the Enlightenment where fascination for Italian singers was already very real.
