From 12 to 28 March, International Bach Festival Stuttgart

Under the motto ‘Because we love Bach!’, the 2nd International Bach Festival Stuttgart will focus in 2026 on Bach’s Latin masses, from the Kyrie-Gloria masses to his magnum opus, the Mass in B minor, complemented by compositions by Johann David Heinichen and Jan Dismas Zelenka for the Catholic court of the Saxon electors in Dresden. Dresden’s inspiration for Bach will be highlighted in the opening concert entitled ‘Klangpracht des Dresdner Barock’ (13 March). More generally, a cross-generational Bach programme is on offer from 13 to 28 March 2026, featuring leading ensembles and artists from the international early music scene. The Vox Luminis ensemble will perform with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra under the baton of Lionel Meunier with a Telemann programme. Concerto Copenhagen will perform the ‘New Brandenburg Concertos’, Solomon’s Knot will play Bach’s St Mark Passion, and Voces Suaves & Gli Incogniti will present ‘Membra Jesu Nostri’. The concert ‘Bach & Khayyam’ with the Canadian ensemble Constantinople and soprano Hana Blažíková, which brings together Bach and the Persian poet, mathematician, astronomer, astrologer and philosopher Omar Khayyam, who lived 600 years before Bach, is obviously arousing particular curiosity. For both Bach and Khayyam, numbers and mathematical relationships are an expression of spirituality.

Also worth noting are the Academy for Young Talents with the JSB (Junge Stuttgarter Soliste Bach) ensemble and the singing masterclasses.
