For the first time ever, the iconic film Farinelli by Gérard Corbiau will be presented as a live cine-concert. On June 7, 2026, at the Casa da Música, in Porto ( Portugal) the James Whale Orchestra joins forces with the Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música to perform the celebrated soundtrack live on period instruments, offering a rare chance to experience the sound world of 18th-century opera.The film portrays the extraordinary life of Carlo Broschi, the legendary castrato Farinelli whose dazzling virtuosity made him a superstar across Europe. Working closely with his brother, composer Riccardo Broschi, Farinelli inspired a repertoire of exceptional arias written for his unique voice.Released in 1994, Corbiau’s film blends sumptuous operatic reconstructions with an intimate narrative, exploring both artistic glory and personal tragedy. Awarded Golden Globes and nominated for an Academy Award, it features a César-winning soundtrack with music by Georg Friedrich Händel, Antonio Vivaldi, Claudio Monteverdi and Nicola Porpora.
