In 2025, two categories will be at the heart of the public competition for the first time: historical string instruments (baroque violin, viola da gamba) and chamber music ensembles. The competition is open to musicians aged 18 to 34 who are committed to the practice of historically informed performance.
Registration for the 13th International Telemann Competition is available online at muvac.com.
The jury, composed of international personalities, includes: Barthold Kuijken (chair), Mechthild Karkow, Enrico Gatti, Mime Brinkmann, Arnie Tanimoto (string jury members), and, for the chamber music ensembles category, Alfredo Bernardini, Dorothee Oberlinger, and Nicholas Parle.
An inspiring repertoire awaits the participants, and the finalists in the historical string instruments category will once again have the pleasure of being accompanied by the renowned Leipzig Baroque Orchestra. Additionally, the competition winners can look forward to prizes totaling €15,500 in their respective categories, as well as concert engagements, including performances at prestigious early music festivals.
Admission to the competition in the historical string instruments category is based on a video recording to be submitted. In the chamber music ensembles category, the first round will take place digitally, based on video recordings. The application deadline is January 6, 2025.
