→What might the musical Europe of Caravaggio have sounded like? A musical portrait in chiaroscuro of a Europe poised between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

‘Lachrimae Caravaggio’: Musical Europe in the Age of Caravaggio

With Lachrimae Caravaggio, Jordi Savall does not set out to recreate an imaginary ‘soundtrack’ to the life of Caravaggio (1571–1610), but rather to evoke through music the Europe in which the painter lived. As in Caravaggio’s paintings, light meets shadow, dance meets lament, and violence meets contemplation.
