For its 35th season, the American ensemble Apollo’s Fire will take to the road in November 2026 with Trinidadian soprano Jeanine De Bique. Conceived by Jeannette Sorrell, Echoes Across the Atlantic explores the historical links between Europe and the Caribbean colonies in the eighteenth century. After several concerts in the United States and an appearance at Carnegie Hall, the tour will continue to Brussels, Paris, Düsseldorf, Lisbon and London.
The programme brings Handel, Purcell, Rameau and Vivaldi into dialogue with texts and traditions from the Caribbean. A suite from Handel’s Agrippina is juxtaposed with a Caribbean funeral oration from 1709 recounting the murder of an enslaved man, while a suite by Rameau and the “Air de la Folie” from Platée lead into a Creole wedding celebration.
The tour begins on 7 and 8 November in Evanston and Chicago, followed by Urbana on the 10th and Cleveland on the 12th. Apollo’s Fire and Jeanine De Bique will then appear at Carnegie Hall in New York on 15 November, Bozar in Brussels on the 18th, La Seine Musicale in Paris on the 20th, the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf on the 22nd, the Grand Auditorium of the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon on the 26th, and finally the Barbican in London on 28 November.
This tour is one of the highlights of Apollo’s Fire’s 2026–27 season. In Ohio, the ensemble will also give 22 performances across seven programmes, from Ben Franklin in Paris in October to Vivaldi on Fire! in spring 2027, taking in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Handel’s Messiah, a programme devoted to violin virtuosity in seventeenth-century England, and Bach’s St Matthew Passion.
