In 2011, at the head of his two ensembles, Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704, Václav Luks presented an emblematic diptych from the sacred repertoire of the Cantor of Leipzig, pairing the Magnificat BWV 243 with the Easter Oratorio BWV 249. A choice both contrasted and complementary, which brings to light two facets of Bach’s vocal writing, between festive splendour and a more inward spiritual narrative.
