“Nativitas Christi” – Dublin Chamber Choir

Among the sacred works of Orlando di Lasso (1532-1594) are his highly expressive settings of the Mass Propers for the major feasts of the liturgical year: Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and Corpus Christi. First published in 1574 under the title Officia aliquot de praecipuis festis anni, these pieces are marked by a measured style of writing, closely attentive to the text and to its role within the celebration.

This recording project presents the Propers — Introit, Alleluia, Sequence and Communion — in their correct liturgical order, alternating them with movements drawn from lesser-known yet equally remarkable Masses by Lasso.

The first volume of the series, devoted to Christmas, is performed by the Dublin Chamber Choir under the direction of Ite O’Donovan. The next release, dedicated to Pentecost, is scheduled for 2026.
