Call for donations to restore the 24 violins of the King at Versailles

The Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (CMBV) is launching a crowdfunding campaign to complete the reconstruction of the Vingt-quatre Violons du Roi, an orchestra that disappeared 300 years ago. For over a century, the Vingt-quatre Violons were the emblematic orchestra of the French court. Their influence spread throughout Europe and inspired the greatest composers, from Bach to Mozart, Handel, Vivaldi, Muffat and Telemann. The CMBV has undertaken to reconstruct these lost instruments with the collaboration of luthiers, researchers and musicians. Six bass violins and twenty-eight bows are still needed to complete this emblem of French music. To finalise the revival of these legendary instruments, €40,000 needs to be raised by 31 December 2025.
