The Venice Music Project Autumn

Starting on Saturday, 13 September, the Venice Music Project invites you to the Scuola Grande dei Carmini in Venice every Saturday for thirteen weeks of music, history and exciting rediscoveries. Liesl Odenweller and Alexander Simpson will open the season with a concert entitled Farinelli & Francesca (13 September), dedicated to two of the most famous singers of the 18th century, the castrato Carlo Broschi, known as ‘Farinelli,’ and the soprano Francesca Cuzzoni, known as ‘La Parmigiana.’ This will be followed on 20 September by the concert Hidden Treasures: Divine Duets, based on the ‘Musical Archaeology’ research developed by the Venice Music Project, which will feature recently rediscovered pieces for solo voice and obbligato violin. On 27 September, the guest ensemble Puy de Saint-Cyr will take the audience on a journey to the heart of a medieval night within the walls of a castle, with compositions by Hildegard von Bingen, Jehan de Lescurel and Girault de Bornhel, among others. Each of these three programmes is intended to be a sound portrait designed to highlight music written for a well-known performer whose voice, technique or inner world influenced the composer’s pen. A stimulating autumn programme to be discovered in the beautiful setting of the Scuola Grande dei Carmini.
