Have you heard of Charles Ignatius Sancho? This 18th-century composer, writer, abolitionist and entrepreneur was the first black person to vote in Great Britain. The bass-baritone Jonathan Woody, one of the most intriguing American singers of the moment, will perform a programme based on the life and music of Charles Ignatius Sancho at the Kehrein Center for the Arts in Chicago on Tuesday 4 March. Woody will also perform pieces by other 17th and 18th century composers, including Handel and Purcell, as well as his own music inspired by Sancho. He will be accompanied by members of the Music of the Baroque Orchestra.
Ø TUESDAY 4 March 2025, from 7 to 8 p.m.
