Founded in 1985 in Toronto by husband-and-wife team Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, the company has today established itself as an international reference in baroque opera. From humble beginnings to triumphs at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, Opera Atelier has marked out milestones along the way: Lully’s Persée, Charpentier’s Médée, Mozart’s Magic Flute, all the way to Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande (!) scheduled for the 2025–26 season. Forty years after its founding, the company continues on its path between Canada, Europe, and Japan, faithful to its credo: to remain rooted in history yet vibrantly attuned to the energies and sensibilities of today.
