An art historian originally from Lorraine, Laurent Brunner, 60, has been Director of Château de Versailles Spectacles since 2007. Over the past eighteen years, he has turned this private company — a subsidiary of the Château de Versailles public institution — into an international benchmark. With programming at the Royal Opera House and the Royal Chapel, a record label, a video platform, an orchestra and a young artists’ academy, he stands out as a truly exceptional cultural entrepreneur.

In 2007, you were appointed by Jean-Jacques Aillagon to head Château de Versailles Spectacles, after founding in 1990 a much-acclaimed festival in Verdun (France) that brought together William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, Gérard Lesne and Marcel Pérès to celebrate the cathedral’s millennium — and after six years directing the Scène nationale de Forbach (France), renamed Le Carreau. Today, eighteen years after your appointment, what does Château de Versailles Spectacles represent for you?
