Typically scheduled during the Whitsun weekend, the 41st edition of the Regensburg Early Music Festival in Germany will take place 2026 from 22 to 25 May. The festival’s management team – Ludwig Hartmann, Stephan Schmid and Paul Holzgartner – has announced 18 concerts, instead of the usual 16, including three free concerts in the city’s historic heritage sites.
New this year: four concerts by harpsichord and fortepiano specialists – Pierre Gallon, Justin Taylor, Jermaine Sprosse, Lois Barrucand and Clément Geoffroy – will be devoted to the pianistic world of Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons. In another Bach concert, the choir and orchestra Il Gardellino (Belgium) will present the Passion Oratorio BWV 169 in a reconstruction and complete version by Alexander Grychtolik.
It should also be noted that the ensemble Oltremontano (Antwerp) and the ensemble Tiburtina (Czech Republic) will perform the Concert of Angels from Hans Memling’s famous altarpiece. The reconstruction of the instruments depicted on this altarpiece and other contextual information will be the subject of a symposium, in partnership with the Institute of Musicology at the University of Regensburg. Finally, it is worth noting the highly international nature of the programme, with ensembles and performers from nine different European countries represented, including Irini, l’escadron Volant de la Reine, les Epopées, Près de vos oreilles, Comet Musicke (France), Parlamento (Switzerland), Stile Antico, Gonzaga Band (UK), Verita Baroque (Germany), Bonne Corde (Portugal), etc.
