This is the third and final episode in our exploration of plucked strings in the musical series created for Total Baroque Magazine. Prepare to be surprised by these refined combinations, where each instrument, whether soloist or accompanist, engages in a subtle dialogue of timbres and eras. Immerse yourself in a 4K exploration of the art of variation and Baroque invention.
We feature Kapsperger, Robert de Visée, and Couperin, as well as Rameau in a transcription for two harpsichords of Platée; Scarlatti and his Sonata K89 for violin and keyboard, adapted here for mandolin and bandurria; There is also the Italian composer and violinist Dario Castello, who played an important role in developing sonata form in the 17th century. The mix of timbres is illustrated once more by the theorbo-mandolin duo of Alon Sariel and Francesca Benetti or Brandon Acker and Daniel Swenberg.
