A Mass for Naples
Following the violent earthquake of 1732 in Naples, Pergolesi composed for his city the grand Messa in Re for ten voices, double choir, two orchestras, and two organs. The acoustics of the large stage at the Concertgebouw, both woody and reverberant, allow for an unprecedented spatial arrangement of the ensemble, blending precision and warmth.
